Back in the 1950s I attended an opening of The Washington Color Painters Exhibition at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. All the artists were dressed in costumes. In 1984, the Dean of the Art Department at NIU, where I was teaching, asked me to pick 5 artists from our faculty to create color lithographs at Plucked Chicken Press (Evanston, IL). I had worked collaboratively with Will Peterson on a print years prior to that. I decided to do this four color print using members of our faculty in costume. "Opening Night " was the result.
